Masala Mar Ke

Dil Chahta Hai made the love for cakes universal by its one simple line,' hum cake khane ke liye kahin bhi ja sakte hain!'
I am a living proof of how true this sentiment rings. Even on Sabbath, the seventh day, the day God meant us to rest, the love for cakes can take a man to the kitchen! And make him bake a cake, to be able to eat it. And do it in style. Because, as the man believes, life mein kuch ho na ho, ishtyle hona mangta!
Chal aaj main cake banaunga was promised on New Year's eve. Then the wine flowed & the cakey promise washed away with it. Chal aaj cake banata hoon, new year hai! Another party was hosted & like all new year resolutions, this too was canned. Finally, Kopal's birthday, the 4th of March. I decide to try my luck. Aaj cake banayein? Aaj main banaunga, main khilata hoon cake aaj! I bless my stars. Go back to sleep. Only to be awakened by the tantalizing aroma of cinnamon.                                                                                                                                               Masaledar Cake! In my kitchen! On a Sunday! Thank you God. I love you!
                                                                                                                                               Kya Laga:
1. 1 bowl self-raising flour[no baking powder needed]
2. 1 bowl sugar
3. 1 bowl white oil
4. 2 eggs
5. 1tsp garam masala[cardamom,cinnamon,clove]
6. 3/4 bowl milk
7. 1tbsp chopped cashew nuts & raisins[optional]

 Kya Kiya:

 1. Set oven to preheat at 170-200°C.

Then start making your cake batter.

2. Grind sugar & garam masala to a fine powder.

3. Add oil & blend for 2 mins.

4. Whisk one egg at a time to the mixture.

5. Add flour & milk & whisk well till batter is smooth.

Fold in the chopped dry fruit.

Note: If you are using plain flour, add 1/4tsp baking powder to it.

6. By now the oven is hot.

Pour the batter in a greased pan & set to bake at 160°C for 20-25 minutes.

Check to see fluff without opening the over door.

When the sensuous aroma of the 3Cs(cardamom,cinnamon,clove:)) makes waiting impossible, open the oven door. Do not take out cake immediately. Let it sit for 10 mins before taking out of the oven.

Upturn cake when cool. Impatience can make it look like this!

Let the critic rest. Attack the cake so lovingly made by The Man. This is absolutely gorgeous!

Thank you God for making Sunday a day of rest for The Lady :)
